In a chilling account, an Israeli soldier involved in the operation that killed Yahya Sinwar shared minutes he spent alone with the Hamas leader’s body. After completing the mission, Lt Col Itamar Eitam described Sinwar as ‘a small, ugly, and broken figure.’
Eitam wrote on Facebook, “I just left Rafah. Not long ago, I looked him – Sinwar – in the eyes. I had a few minutes alone with him, and I looked at him – a small, ugly, and broken figure, lying on a shattered couch.”
Recounting the pain Sinwar caused, LT Col said that as he looked at the ruined city, he even felt pain for them.
“But above all, I felt insulted on God’s behalf because he was once a baby and a child too. He had an option and he chose evil and wickedness. What an insult that he was also an individual created in your image. How distorted. How much the world has transformed for the better. We won’t be in confusion and give up. We will win together. Happy holiday,” he added.

יצאתי עכשיו מרפיח. רק לא מזמן הסתכלתי בו, בסינוואר, בעיניים. היו לי כמה דקות לבד איתו והסתכלתי עליו דמות קטנה כעורה…

Hamas suffered a major blow after Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind behind the deadly October 7 attack on Israel, was killed.
A drone video was released on October 18 that showed Sinwar sitting on a couch, gravely injured in a devastated Gaza apartment. The IDF international spokesperson claimed that it was ‘raw footage of Yahya Sinwar’s last moments’ in an X post.
Sinwar appeared to throw a stick at the drone approaching him in the video, with his right arm severely injured.
