Influencer Dies During Full Back Tattoo – What Went Wrong While Getting Inked?

The tragic death of Brazilian car influencer Ricardo Godoi, who passed away during a back tattoo procedure, has sent shockwaves through the tattoo community. The Instagram star, with over 220,000 followers at the time of his death, reportedly died during the administration of anesthesia prior to the tattooing. Various reports suggest that Ricardo went into cardiac arrest at the start of a procedure to tattoo his entire back, shortly after the sedation process began. Godoi was on the operating table when the tragic incident occurred.

The tragic event is said to have occurred on Jan. 20 at a hospital in Brazil’s Santa Caterina state, where he underwent general anesthesia before the bodywork began.
Before the procedure, Godoi assured his social media followers that he would be back to posting later that afternoon. However, while on the operating table, he went into cardiac arrest on Monday, January 20. An Instagram post announcing his passing revealed that he died at 12 p.m. the same day.

He had told his 220,000 Instagram followers in a message shortly before the tragedy that he was about to undergo a surgical procedure and will only be back here after 4pm. Ricardo, who had built up a successful business importing and selling luxury sports cars including Ferraris and Lamborghinis, leaves behind a wife and children. A police investigation into his death has been launched and was ongoing today.

In a statement published by the Daily Mail, the tattoo studio’s owner claimed that Godoi went into cardiac arrest “at the beginning of the sedation and intubation,” before they were able to start the inking process. “What happened was that, at the beginning of the sedation and intubation, he went into cardiac arrest.” He said.

“He was quickly checked and a cardiologist was called in to try to revive him, unfortunately without success,” the owner continued, per the outlet. The tattooist also said he “deeply regrets” Godoi’s tragic death and called him a “great friend.”

What Tattoo Studio Said

“Ricardo was going to have a full back tattoo done with us under general anesthetic, sedation and intubation. To do this, we hired a private hospital with all the staff, equipment and anesthetic drugs necessary for the safety of the procedure. We also hired a doctor with a specialism in anesthesiology and experience in intubation, whose documentation was approved by the hospital.”

Godoi, who was married, as per his Instagram bio, regularly posted content about luxury cars. He also acted as CEO of his own business, Godoi Premium Group. According to the New York Post, he posted about luxury cars for his avid fanbase. The family man had recently shared videos of himself and his children playing at a pool — shortly before the sad loss.The update shared on his page stated that information about his wake and burial would be released soon.
