A powerful earthquake struck Indonesia’s Sumatra island today. The tremor, reported to be of 6.6 magnitude on the Richter scale, occurred a few hours ago.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, the tremor was recorded at 10.26 am. The earthquake’s epicentre was located 10 km below the ground. It was about 515 km south-southeast of Campbell Bay in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 606 km west of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and over 1,000 km south-southeast of Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
