The case of an Indian woman being caught red-handed while shoplifting at a Target store in the US is becoming increasingly viral on social media these days. Although this incident happened in January, its video is now in the headlines again.
According to media reports, the woman herself has admitted that she had stolen things worth about ₹ 1 lakh. In this video of about 10 minutes, the woman can be seen in a very nervous state during police interrogation – she was constantly crying, gasping and choking. According to the information, she continued to hyperventilate for more than an hour, on which the police asked her if she needed any medical help.
In the video, the woman said that she is from India and her mother tongue is Gujarati. Reports also revealed that she had stolen many times before in that particular Target store, but was never caught till now. This time she was caught with goods worth more than ₹1 lakh. However, despite the seriousness of the matter, the police did not register any case against her and just warned her and let her go.
People’s opinions on the internet are divided about this matter. One user wrote, “Shoplifting is actually not a very big issue there, 25% of Americans have done it at least once in their life. And police don’t take action till the products are worth $800-900. She might have crossed this threshold.. that’s it.”
While another user said, “Not sure why criminals are being connected with a country’s identity, except Indians nobody does that. Nobody tarnishes the image of Indians more than Indians themselves and shoplifting is not even that big crime for which the poor lady is being shared around.”
This video is continuously spreading on social media and there is a lot of debate among people about it.
