India is closely watching China’s growing military support to Pakistan, especially Beijing’s decision to supply advanced submarines to the Pakistani Navy. Indian Navy Deputy Chief Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan confirmed the development on Thursday and said that the Indian Navy is fully aware of the situation and is taking all necessary steps to ensure the country’s maritime security.
India Keeping a Close Watch on China-Pakistan Defence Cooperation
During an event in New Delhi, Vice Admiral Vatsayan was asked about China handing over submarines and other military equipment to Pakistan. He said that the reports are accurate and that the deployment of these submarines will begin soon.
“It is true, and we are fully aware of it. We know they (China) are giving submarines to Pakistan, and their deployment will begin shortly. We are monitoring every situation,” he said. The Deputy Chief added that the Indian Navy is prepared to safeguard India’s maritime interests and is actively strengthening its capabilities in the Indian Ocean Region.
Submarines Expected to Boost Pakistan Navy’s Strength
China has long been Pakistan’s main supplier of military platforms, including fighter jets, naval vessels, tanks, and missile systems. The addition of Chinese submarines will significantly enhance Pakistan’s underwater warfare capabilities.
Defence analysts believe these submarines could pose challenges for India in the Arabian Sea, as they will improve Pakistan’s ability to conduct surveillance, naval patrols, and anti-ship missions.
The Indian Navy, however, maintains that it is fully confident in its operational readiness and continues to modernize rapidly to counter regional threats.
China Inducts Its Most Advanced Aircraft Carrier, Fujian
Vice Admiral Vatsayan also confirmed that China has inducted its third and most advanced aircraft carrier, Fujian, into its naval fleet. The carrier is equipped with an electromagnetic catapult system, making it the first non-US carrier to use this advanced launch technology.
The carrier was added to the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) in a secretive ceremony attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Experts say the Fujian enhances China’s ability to project power in the Indo-Pacific, an area where India, the US, and other nations are working to maintain balance.
India Focused on Self-Reliance Through ‘Swavlamban 2025’
The Deputy Chief was speaking at Swavlamban 2025, an event focused on innovation and indigenization in the Indian Navy. He stressed that India is committed to building more indigenous platforms, improving naval technology, and reducing dependence on foreign equipment.
Despite the rapid military modernization by China and its growing support to Pakistan, the Indian Navy said it remains alert, capable, and ready to protect India’s maritime borders.
