In a shocking incident, a 21-year-old Indian man, identified as Jashanpreet Singh, has been arrested in Southern California for allegedly causing a semi-truck crash that killed three people and injured several others, according to US media. Singh, noted as an illegal immigrant in the US, was arrested on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated after he allegedly crashed his big rig into slow-moving traffic on a San Bernardino County freeway.
An Illegal Immigrant
According to reports, Singh crossed the southern US border in 2022 and first encountered Border Patrol agents in California’s El Centro Sector in March of that year. He was subsequently released into the interior of the country under the Biden administration’s “alternatives to detention” policy. This policy allowed certain undocumented immigrants to remain in the US while awaiting their immigration hearings.
Video Captured on Dashcam
The deadly crash, which occurred on the I-10 Freeway on Tuesday afternoon, was captured on the dashcam of Singh’s Freightliner tractor-trailer. The footage shows the truck plowing into an SUV, sparking a massive fire that claimed the lives of at least three people. Singh and a roadside mechanic who was assisting with a tire change were among those injured in the tragic incident. The video has been widely circulated on social media.

Suspected of Drug Influence
One America News, quoted the California Highway Patrol (CHP) who stated that Singh was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. Reports indicate that Singh never applied the brakes before the collision and was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. “He was eventually transported to the hospital, and he was checked out by the medical staff, and our officers determined he was driving under the influence of drugs,” said CHP Officer Rodrigo Jimenez, as quoted by ABC7 News.
