G20 foreign Minister Summit: Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahidi on Friday praised the Indian diplomatic approach during covid period. He is in India to take part in the G20 Foreign Ministers summit.
He applauded India’s effort to assist earthquake hit ‘Turkey’ and Indian leadership’s ‘vaccine diplomacy’ approach during covid period.
“India’s leadership internationally has been outstanding and that is not for me to say but for everyone to see how India has established itself. Most recently in the aftermath of the earthquake in Turkey, India dispatched its rescue personnel immediately,” said Abdulla Shahidi.
Maldive’s Foreign Minister further said, ” I’ve travelled in the last year to many parts of the world as UNGA president. I was told by leaders in far corners of the world how India reached out with vaccines to them during the covid pandemic. So, Indian leadership is being appreciated and Indian people are loved throughout the world”“
Talking to News Agency ANI, He also talked about Maldive’s relations with China and India.
Responding to a question he said, ” For Maldives, India is special. Our foreign policy is based on India first for reasons I’ve told you before – we’ve no enemies but are friends to all. China has been a development partner of Maldives for a long time.”
India is hosting the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting, Delegates from China, the US, Russia and other G20 countries have reached India to participate.
