In view of the present security situation, the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) in Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, closed its office on Wednesday. The IVAC, located in Jamuna Future Park (JFP) in Dhaka, is the main and unified centre for all Indian visa services in the capital.
The IVAC notified that all applicants with appointment slots for submission of applications on Wednesday will have their appointments rescheduled for a later date. Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi summoned Bangladesh High Commissioner Riaz Hamidullah and expressed its serious concern over the announcement of a conspiracy by some extremist elements to create a security crisis around the Indian mission in Dhaka.
India Rejects false narrative
The Ministry of External Affairs also said in a statement that India completely rejects the false narrative being fabricated by extremist elements regarding some recent incidents in Bangladesh. Immediately after Hamidullah was summoned, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that it is unfortunate that the interim government has neither conducted a thorough investigation into these incidents nor shared any concrete evidence with India in this regard.
India has serious concerns
concerns regarding The Ministry of External Affairs said that High Commissioner Hamidullah was conveyed India’s serious concerns regarding the deteriorating security environment in Bangladesh. The Foreign Ministry had summoned Indian Ambassador to Dhaka Pranay Verma three days ago and expressed concerns over proactive statements made by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from Indian soil.
It has clarified that it has never allowed its territory to be used for activities inimical to Bangladesh’s interests.
