New Delhi: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov supported India for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council during the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Sergei Lavrov calls for new permanent members at UNSC
Addressing the UNGA session, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that our country sees India as a worthy candidate for permanent membership within the Council.
“We see India and Brazil in particular as worthy candidates for permanent membership within the Council,” Lavrov said.
S Jaishankar calls peace and diplomacy
Meanwhile, speaking at the United Nations General Assembly on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that India calls for the need to end the Russia-Ukraine war through peace and diplomacy. Jaishankar spoke on the issue of Russia-Ukraine conflict and said that India is in favor of peace and will stand firm.
4 out of 5 candidates support India for a permanent space at UNSC
Earlier, the central government had said that four of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) supported India’s candidature for a permanent seat in the apex world body.
Responding to a question, Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan said that India has been consistently raising the issue of UNSC reforms with China. China is the only country that has not yet supported India’s attempt to become a member of the UNSC.
