The 2024 Henley Passport Index has been published, revealing France as the leading country, while India’s passport ranking has slightly dropped from 84th to 85th position compared to last year.
Indian Passport Strength:
Despite an increase in the number of countries Indian passport holders can visit visa-free, rising from 60 to 62 this year, the decline in India’s ranking is unexpected. In the 2024 Henley Passport Index, France holds the top position, with its passport providing visa-free access to 194 countries, reflecting the strength of its passport in terms of global mobility.
Top-Ranked Countries:
Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain share the top ranks with France in the 2024 Henley Passport Index. On the other hand, Pakistan remains at 106th place, consistent with last year, while Bangladesh has dropped from 101st to 102nd position.

Meanwhile, India’s neighboring country Maldives retains its strong passport ranking, holding steady at 58th place, allowing Maldivian passport holders visa-free access to 96 countries.
Despite recent announcements from Iran, Malaysia, and Thailand offering visa-free entry for Indian tourists, India’s decline in the rankings is noteworthy. The Henley Passport Index, which bases its rankings on data spanning the past 19 years, utilizes specialized data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This data covers 199 different passports and 227 travel destinations worldwide, contributing to the comprehensive assessment of passport strength and global mobility.
