India has rejected Khalistan separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun’s lawsuit against the Indian government as “unwarranted and unsubstantiated.”

Foreign Secretary’s Response

Foreign Secretary of India Vikram Misri addressed the media, dismissing Pannun’s claims. He stated that the lawsuit does not change India’s stance on the situation. Misri also noted that Pannun’s group, Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), is an “unlawful organization” under India’s Unlawful Activities Prevention Act of 1967 due to its efforts to disrupt India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Details of the Lawsuit

Pannun filed a civil lawsuit in a US district court, alleging that the Indian government was involved in the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, British Columbia, last year. The lawsuit claims Nijjar was shot 34 times and that a video of his body was used to threaten Nikhil Gupta, who is accused of plotting against Pannun. Gupta, an Indian national, was arrested in the Czech Republic at the request of the US government for his alleged role in the plot.

Background on Pannun

Pannun is a key figure in the Khalistan movement and serves as the legal advisor and spokesperson for SFJ, which advocates for a separate Sikh state.
