A press release that claimed to be from the Government of Pakistan started spreading online. It said that former Prime Minister Imran Khan had died while in judicial custody and that an investigation was underway.

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is at the centre of a viral death hoax, with unverified reports alleging he died under mysterious circumstances while in judicial custody or jail. Is It True Or Fake?

Though the news and images of the former Pakistani Prime Minister have created anger among the Pakistani people and Imran’s PTI, Pakistani local media have quickly said that the reports were false.
They blamed the spread of this fake news on social media accounts from outside the country, especially from India. They also said Imran Khan is “safe and sound” in prison.

Press Release From Pakistan Added To Rumours

Adding to the confusion, a press release that claimed to be from the Government of Pakistan started spreading online. It said that former Prime Minister Imran Khan had died while in judicial custody and that an investigation was underway. However, there has been no official confirmation or denial from Pakistani authorities or jail officials.

About The Video Shared

Many users shared a video claiming he had been shot or beaten, but these claims are false. The video is actually from 2013, when Imran Khan, then the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI), fell from a forklift while being lifted onto a stage at an election rally in Lahore. He suffered a head injury in that fall, but it was not a recent incident.

This old video was reused to spread misinformation and create panic. Some social media posts even falsely accused Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir of being involved in Khan’s death, which increased tensions further.
