Barack Obama: Former President Barack Obama fantasized about having love with men, according to a letter he wrote to his ex-girlfriend Alex McNear in November 1982.
The former president’s letters, written between 1982 and 1984, first came to light in 2017. The letter received renewed attention following a long and in-depth interview with her biographer David Garrow. Obama’s revelation of a more than four-decade-old letter shows how the unconscious wanderings of young minds can rapidly fade and get lost over time.
The letter also revealed Obama’s first intellectual understanding of humanity and the sexuality of the gay community, stating that same-sex intimacy should not be viewed as abuse, but as part of the natural exploration of one’s sexuality.
“As for homosexuality, I must say that I think it is an attempt to move away from the present, perhaps a refusal to obey the endless humour of mundane life. You see, I like men every day., But in imagination, ” read the letter.
In the letter, Mr Obama candidly reflected on his personal search for intimacy, noting that he considered both male and female perspectives. She especially embraces the interesting idea of adopting a non-binary identity, highlighting the complexity of her self-determination. He eventually decided to continue identifying as a man, recognizing the potential influence of his physical masculinity in shaping his future plans.
