‘I’m Very Close To India, Pakistan’: Donald Trump Makes First Public Remarks On Pahalgam Attack – Here’s What He Said

Trump's statements come a few days after he called PM Modi and assured that the United States stands with India in its fight against terrorism and offered all possible support.

US President Donald Trump made his first public remarks on Friday following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, 2025. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump condemned the attack, saying, “That was a bad one.” He further noted that tensions between India and Pakistan have been ongoing for a long time, and that both sides will figure out one way or the other.

Trump Emphasizes Close Ties With India & Pakistan

On being asked about the prevailing tensions between both countries following the attack in Kashmir, Trump emphasized his close ties. He said, “I am very close to India, and I’m very close to Pakistan. They’ve had that fight for a 1000 years in Kashmir. The fight has been ongoing for a thousand years, probably longer, and it was a bad one yesterday, that (terrorist attack) was a bad one, over 30 people.”

Trump On Long-Standing Conflict Over Kashmir

Again, on the long-standing conflict over Kashmir, the US president responded by stating that tensions continued on the region’s border for 1,500 years, and he is sure that the countries will resolve the situation on their own. He added, “I know both leaders, there’s great tension between Pakistan and India, but there always has been.”

Trump’s statements come a few days after he called PM Modi and assured that the United States stands with India in its fight against terrorism and offered all possible support. In a post on X, Trump wrote, “Deeply disturbing news out of Kashmir. The United States stands strong with India against Terrorism. We pray for the souls of those lost and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Modi and the incredible people of India have our full support and deepest sympathies. Our hearts are with you all!”

26 People, Mostly Tourists Were Killed By Terrorists

Total 26 tourists were killed and several were injured after terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists in the Baisaran area of Pahalgam on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. The barbaric incident sent shockwaves across India and around the world, with leaders condemning the attack. As per the latest reports, the responsibility for the brutal killing has been claimed by the Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy outfit of Lashkar-e-Taiba.
