Israeli airstrikes in Yemen’s capital Sanaa killed Ahmed al-Rahawi, the Prime Minister of the Houthi-controlled administration, on Thursday, the Iranian-backed group confirmed. In a statement released on Saturday, the Houthis said that al-Rahawi was killed along with several other ministers in the attack. The rebel group added that the strike occurred while the officials were attending a government workshop.
According to AP, the Israeli military said that it had “precisely struck a Houthi terrorist regime target” in Sanaa. Al-Rahawi, who had been serving as the prime minister since August 2024, was a prominent figure in the Houthi-led administration.
The Houthis, who are in solidarity with the Palestinians, have repeatedly launched airstrikes against Israel over the past months. Earlier this week, the Israeli forces attacked multiple areas across Sanaa. At least 10 people were killed while 102 others were injured in the attack, according to the Houthi-run health ministry.
