Canadian Sikh MPP Hardeep Grewal became a victim of a racist attack in Ontario when he was with his family members, and two men approached him, calling him a “turban head.”
According to the Times of India, Grewal, a Member of Provincial Parliament in Ontario, serves as an assistant to the Minister of Transportation. The MPP took to X and posted about how exhausting and painful the episode was.
He wrote on X, “It is not the first time this has happened, but today I feel compelled to speak out about how exhausting and painful it is. Today in downtown Muskoka, while sharing ice cream with my family, two strangers decided to share their hate instead. One yelled, “Hey turban head, go home,” before speeding off. Another, walking by, said, “You all should die.” In that moment, I was reminded that the fight against hate is far from over. But our strength is louder. Ontario is our home. It belongs to all of us.
To my Sikh brothers and sisters, stay vigilant, stay proud, and stay strong. Hate never wins. Good will always triumph.”

Expressing distress over the incident, Sri Lankan origin Canada MPP for Scarborough wrote on X, “I’m deeply saddened and angered to read this. Hardeep represents the very best of what it means to serve others. He has dedicated his life to public service, working tirelessly to build stronger, safer, and more inclusive communities and a man whose kindness and humility leave a lasting impact on everyone he meets. Racism in any form is vile and unacceptable. There is absolutely no place for hate in our province or our country. Hate will never overcome compassion, courage, and unity.”
