German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul, arrived in Bengaluru on Tuesday morning, marking the start of his two-day official visit to India that underscores the deepening India-Germany ties.
The visit, scheduled from September 2 to 3, begins in Bengaluru, the tech hub of India, where Wadephul will inspect the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), after which he will leave for Delhi.
A statement issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the visit is aimed at further strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields. Wadephul highlighted the depth of India-Germany ties: “politically, economically, culturally,” and hinted at the vast potential of this partnership. He also said, “The expansion of our strategic partnership has much potential: from security cooperation to innovation and technology to recruiting skilled workers.”

On September 3, he will meet Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and hold talks with External Affairs Minister S. He will hold official talks with Jaishankar. Praising India’s global role and democratic power, Wadephul said, “India’s voice, that of the world’s most populous country and largest democracy, is also heard beyond the strategically important Indo-Pacific region. That is why I am travelling today for talks.”
He underlined the shared democratic values of India and Germany and their role in maintaining the stability of the global order. In his words, “India plays a decisive role in shaping the international order of our century. We as democracies are natural partners in this. In view of massive geopolitical challenges, we want and must preserve the rules-based international order together.”

The visit comes at a time when Germany is making active efforts to strengthen its economic and security ties in the Indo-Pacific region, advance technical cooperation and attract Indian skilled professionals. The visit comes after the recent talks between External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and German MP Jurgen Hardt in New Delhi.
