Authorities from Iran’s security forces helped Hamas to carry out the surprise attack on Israel that led to a bombardment of explosives between the two countries now “officially at war,” informed senior officials from Hamas and Hezabollah, an Iran-backed militant group.
The plan to barge into Israel through land, sea and air was given a nod at a meeting in Beirut, capital of Lebanon, last Monday, reported Wall Street Journal. Officials from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRCG) have been in contact with Hamas since August devising a plan to launch an attack on Israel. The incursion was reportedly a huge breach of the Jewish State since the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
There had been a number of meetings before the attack to devise and refine each detail of the plan. These meetings were also attended by IRGC officers and representatives of four Iran-backed militant groups.
Hamas carried out a surprise attack in Israel on Saturday that rocked the country. It must be noted that Hamas is the predominant group in Gaza and holds immense power there. Along with Hamas, there was Hezbollah, a Shiite militant group and political faction in Lebanon.
The Journal further quoted the Gaza and Iran militant group officials saying the aim to assault Israel is to eventually wage an active war on all fronts, having the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Hezbollah in the north and Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hamas in Gaza and the West Bank.
US officials, however, could not confirm Iran directing to launch attacks. Some experts, on the other hand, suggested that “Hamas, like Hezbollah in Lebanon, does not single-handedly make decisions to engage in war without prior explicit agreement from Iran,” quoted New York Post.
Meanwhile, another Hamas official insisted that it was only their group’s plan and no one else was involved.
The October 7 attack on Hamas sent shockwaves across the globe as the world is already witnessing the Russia-Ukraine war and the Taliban’s invasion in Afghanistan. Hamas sent thousands of rockets and groups of armed gunmen over the Israeli border. It killed over 700, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.
