Israeli Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian on Thursday announced that the Gaza ceasefire will begin within 24 hours of cabinet approval. She said that US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had a phone call following the announcement of the Gaza peace agreement. “It was a very emotional and warm conversation as both leaders congratulated each other on this historic achievement,” she said.
During the media briefing, she stated that a ceasefire will commence within 24 hours after the Israeli cabinet meeting to be held today at 8.30 pm. The Israeli spokesperson mentioned that it depends on those at the table agreeing to the terms of phase one, which was approved in Egypt earlier in the day.
Bedrosian also set out a timeline of events. “At 17:00 local time (15:00 BST), there will be a cabinet meeting, followed an hour later by a government meeting,” BBC quoted her as saying. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) plan to redeploy to a line, potentially placing the military to seize control and holding about 53% of the Gaza Strip.
“There will be a 72-hour window for Hamas to release the remaining hostages back into Israel,” she added. Meanwhile, the Israeli foreign minister told Fox News that Israel does not intend “to renew the war” in Gaza.
Israel, Hamas sign first phase of Gaza peace plan: Donald Trump
Earlier, President Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had “signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan”. “This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed-upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace,” Trump said on Truth Social.
“All Parties will be treated fairly! This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!” he added.
