Futuristic! You Can Hire Someone To Rescue You From Traffic Jam In Beijing? Here’s How

Jinan, the capital of Shandong province, also witnessed the success of this service, as reported by Guangzhou Daily.

As one of the most densely populated cities globally, Beijing, with its staggering population exceeding 21 million, grapples with notorious traffic congestion. In a bid to outsmart the gridlock, inventive solutions have emerged, with one intriguing option being the practice of “jam busting.” For a fee of approximately $60, individuals can enlist the help of skilled riders, often on motorcycles, to expertly navigate through the snarls and rescue them from the clutches of traffic jams.

Beijing Traffic Jam – Jam Busting

This unconventional service entails hiring agile individuals who deftly weave through congested areas, utilizing narrow passages and alternative routes to expedite the journey for stranded drivers. The hired motorcyclists swoop in to pick up individuals stuck in traffic, providing them with a faster route to their intended destinations, thereby circumventing the frustrations of being ensnared in a traffic jam.

In 2015, an example of this service, known as ‘Dingding Yueche,’ operated in Beijing. It offered to ferry stranded drivers on motorcycles to their destinations, with another person responsible for managing their vehicles. However, this innovative venture was short-lived, with low demand and safety concerns prompting its discontinuation after a few months.

Jinan, the capital of Shandong province, also witnessed the success of this service, as reported by Guangzhou Daily. Despite its popularity, some were hesitant to embrace it due to trust issues, fearing potential vehicle theft by the unknown rescuers.

Several factors contribute to Beijing’s persistent traffic issues:

Rapid Urbanization: The city has experienced swift urbanization and population growth, straining its infrastructure’s capacity to keep pace with the rising number of vehicles.

Limited Road Capacity: Efforts to expand the road network have been made, but the development often lags behind the escalating demand, resulting in inadequate space for the increasing volume of vehicles.

Geographic Constraints: Beijing’s geographical setting, surrounded by mountains on three sides, poses challenges for expansive road construction. The limited available land complicates the creation of new thoroughfares to effectively alleviate congestion.

Public Transportation Challenges: While Beijing boasts an extensive public transportation system, including buses and subways, its capacity falls short of meeting demand. Many commuters still opt for private vehicles, contributing significantly to traffic congestion.

In the face of these challenges, the unconventional “jam busting” service continues to offer a creative and albeit temporary respite for those seeking refuge from the maddening Beijing traffic.
