Gisele Pelicot appeared in court for more that two months. This is due to the video shot by her husband was played before the court. This which shows number of men abusing her, as reported by USA Today.
The incident happened with her when she was asleep. She was there in the court when the videos were played and didn’t leave the room when the videos were played.
As per the reports by USA Today, ” she made her closing statement on Tuesday. The trial was going on in the court regarding when 51 men accused with raping her, after Pelicot was drugged by her husband. Her husband invited the men to their home, to abuse Pelicot.
Pelicot stated that the is to change the way this macho, patriarchal society looks at the rape.
This incident sparked an outrage in France. During the trail the accused said that, they thought that they were just participants in the ‘sexual’ game of husband. The accused further mentioned that, “they were unaware that the thing that they did was rape.
Pelicot reacted to this by saying, “When you walk into a bedroom and see a motionless body, at what point (do you decide) not to react? Why did you not leave immediately to report it to the police?” as reported by USA Today. She further said that, this is a trail of cowardice for me and there is no way to describe it.
Until she got contacted by the police, she felt it was a happy marriage with her husband, Dominique Pelicot. Pelicot thought it was memory loss or some kind of worrying symptoms that she was experiencing for years. That made her thought it as brain tumor or Alzheimer, made her visit many doctors, as reported by media.
Things came to light when her husband was caught filming women’s skirts at a supermarket, for which he got arrested by officials.
Dominique Pelicot took the responsibility in the court that, I am rapist, just like others in this room. Dominique Pelicot stated that he was innocent of abusing their daughter.
