Former Malaysian PM ‘Muhyiddin Yassin’ arrests in corruption charges
New Delhi: Former Prime Minister of Malaysia ‘Muhyiddin Yassin’ on Thursday arrested in connection with many allegations of corruption. The country's anti-corruption agency said.
In a statement, Malaysia's Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) said that Muhyiddin was arrested after being questioned about an economic reform project launched during his tenure. The agency would lay charges on Friday.
The MACC confirmed that former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin was summoned for interrogation and detained at 1 p.m.
According to a local news portal. Former PM Muhyiddin would be charged under the laws of abuse of power and money laundering.
Muhyiddin served as prime minister for 17 months between March 2020 and August 2021. He is the chairman of the Perikatan National Party.
