Victoria Kjaer Theilvig has invited cultural and political discussion by winning the crown of Miss Universe 2024. 21-year-old, Victoria is the first Miss Denmark to win this competition and be crowned Miss Universe. She emerged winner beating over 120 contestants from all around the world at the annual beauty pageant.
Following her win, Miss Universe organisation congratulated Victoria and wrote, “A new era begins! Congratulations to Denmark, our 73rd Miss Universe. May your reign inspire and empower women worldwide.”

Interestingly, her victory has brought a wave of happiness among people who religiously follow beauty pageant. It has sparked a wave of social media reactions, where netizens are lauding that beauty has returned to normalcy. They seem elated with the winner of this competition being a biological woman following the pageant’s decision permitting transgender women to participate.

Why Are Netizens Elated On Her Win?
The competition held in Mexico City was more traditional competition and different than 2023 which featured plus-size, married, and transgender women. Last year had seen a transgender woman from Portugal placed in the top 20. Months before the 2023 competition, 22-year-old Rikkie Valerie Kolle became the first transgender Miss Netherlands.
Notably, the pageant was bought out by Thai media mogul Anne Jakapong Jakrajutatip, a transgender woman and avid supporter of trans rights, so many fans anticipated another year of departing from the competition’s traditional norm.
The growing participation of transgender women in beauty competitions had drawn widespread criticism and concern. People believed that it might overshadow the traditional focus of the event.
Earlier, Donald Trump, a former co-owner of the Miss Universe Organization, had called the inclusion of transgender contestants as ‘woke ideology’ and opposed their participation.
