PTI says the sisters were peacefully sitting outside the jail

Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), said the police mistreated the former prime minister’s sisters and detained them violently. PTI said Aleema, Noreen and Dr Uzma were sitting peacefully outside the jail after they were denied permission to meet Imran Khan. They were holding a sit-in when police intervened. PTI also said several workers, including KP minister Meena Khan Afridi, MNA Shahid Khattak and many women supporters, were assaulted and taken away by the police. The party accused the Punjab administration of using harassment and force against Imran Khan’s family, saying this violated his legal right to meet his relatives.

PTI alleges waterlogging and darkness before the crackdown

PTI also alleged that the police intentionally flooded the area where the sisters were sitting and later switched off the lights, plunging the place into darkness before taking action. In another video, Noreen said female police officers pulled her hair and pushed her to the ground. She said she still could not understand what happened and that PTI workers were sitting quietly. Former Pakistan president Arif Alvi criticised the police action, saying the dignity of women was violated and that the sisters were punished simply for trying to meet their brother.

Why Imran Khan is in jail?

Imran Khan has been in Adiala Jail since August 2023. He was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau in the Al-Qadir Trust case, where he and his wife Bushra Bibi are accused of corruption involving land donated by real estate tycoon Malik Riaz. In January 2025, a court sentenced Imran Khan to 14 years in prison, while Bushra Bibi received 7 years. Imran Khan also faces other cases, including the Toshakhana case and the cipher case. PTI says these cases are politically motivated and part of a conspiracy by the government and the military to keep Imran Khan out of power.
