Bobba is registered as an “expert” in internal government records at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and reports directly to Amanda Scales, the new chief of staff. Scales, who has previously worked in hiring for Musk’s AI company xAI, has further added to the speculation about Bobba’s quick rise.

Bobba started his journey as a talented coder at UC Berkeley, and his quick rise to an important government position is highly impressive.

AKASH BOBBA’S BACKGROUND

Bobba’s deleted LinkedIn profile showed that he had a brilliant academic record. He has studied in the prestigious Management, Entrepreneurship, and Technology program at UC Berkeley. He also gained valuable experience through internships at top notch tech companies like Meta, Palantir, and the well-known hedge fund Bridgewater Associates.

Further adding to his technical skills, Bobba’s resume showcases expertise in AI, data analytics, and financial modelling.

Charis Zhang, a former classmate of Bobba, shared a story that says about his amazing coding skills. At Berkeley, just two days before an important project deadline, Bobba’s teammate accidentally deleted all their work. While everyone panicked, Bobba stayed calm, he rewrote the entire project overnight, and submitted it early. In the end, they got top marks.

Zhang also took this incident to social media and wrote that “During a project at Berkeley, I accidentally deleted our entire codebase. I panicked. Akash just stared at the screen, shrugged, and rewrote everything from scratch in one night—better than before. We submitted early and got first in the class,”

In addition to Bobba, the other engineers hired by DOGE include Edward Coristine, Luke Farritor, Gautier Cole Killian, Gavin Kliger, and Ethan Shaotran.

At 19: Wrote AI models for Meta
At 20: Interned at Palantir
At 21: Graduated Berkeley
At 22: Given classified access to rebuild US governmentt systems

CONTROVERSY AROUND AKASH BOBBA

There are concerns gowing about how much access these young engineers have been given in federal agencies. According to WIRED, sources say that at least four of them—Bobba, Coristine, Farritor, and Shaotran—have top-level clearance at the GSA, giving them access to all physical and IT systems.

Critics worry that placing young and less experienced people in important government roles could lead to problems with regulation and oversight.

“This situation is unusual because these individuals are not actual public officials, yet they have access to highly sensitive government data,” said Don Moynihan, a public policy professor at the University of Michigan, in an interview with WIRED. “Congress has no real way to step in or keep track of what’s happening.”
