London (UK): A man was arrested on Wednesday for tossing at least three eggs at King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla, who were visiting the city of York, according to The Washington Post.

While throwing the eggs, the detained person said, “This country was created on the blood of slaves,” while the mob continued to boo, “God Save the King.” The hubbub didn’t appear to bother Charles, who stepped around the eggs scattered on the sidewalk.

Charles and Camilla were in town to dedicate a statue to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

According to The Washington Post, the role of Britain and the British royal family has been repeatedly questioned in countries where the British queen still reigns.

Earlier this year, during Prince William and his wife’s Caribbean vacation, some activists called on the monarchy to apologise and support reparations for slavery.

Furthermore, this was not the first time the newly appointed King met opposition. Several arrests were made of activists conducting protests in the days following Queen Elizabeth’s death.

In Edinburgh, Scotland, one person was arrested for waving a sign with an expletive and the words “abolish the monarchy.” Another woman was jailed in Oxford, England, for yelling “who elected him?” when a document formally recognising Charles as King was read aloud.

It is also not the first time eggs were thrown at a British monarch. During the queen’s royal tour of New Zealand in 1986, she was also hit with an egg by a woman opposing Britain’s treaty with the Maori tribes.

However, King Charles III has expressed an interest in discussing the issue. According to The Washington Post, Obama spoke with artists who had engaged in a project addressing Britain’s involvement in slavery during his visit to Leeds.
