Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khanum encountered an unexpected situation outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where someone threw an egg at her. The incident occurred while she was addressing the media after the hearing in the Toshakhana case.
In the video, the egg can be seen hitting her chin before falling on her clothes. After the incident, a woman can be heard shouting: “Who the hell is this?” and “Kisne kiya yeh (Who did this).” Khanum, though visibly shocked, reacted calmly and said, “Koi baat nahi, jaane do”. The video has now gone viral on social media.
Meanwhile, two women were arrested for throwing the egg at Imran Khan’s sister. Police said the women were supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and hurled the egg after she dodged a question from journalists.
Strongly condemn the disgraceful act of throwing an egg at Aleema Khanum, sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. No political disagreement should ever justify such disrespect. Pakistan’s politics need dialogue, not humiliation. #AleemaKhanum #StayStrongAleemaKhan pic.twitter.com/U5e2J1djPc

Mediapersons had asked her about reporter Tayyab Baloch, who faced massive backlash on social media after making allegations against her. He had questioned Khanum about using donation funds to purchase a property. Baloch also said the PTI team targeted him with a campaign and that he even got a threat.
Journalists asked Aleema, “You did not answer the question; instead, Tayyab Baloch was threatened. Is asking a question a crime? Do you only respond to questions of your choice?”
PTI supporters have condemned the act. One user on X wrote, “…Such behavior is not only unethical but also unfortunate, as it turns political disagreements into insults and attacks. Differences of opinion are one thing, but civility and respect should never be abandoned.”, another claimed, “This disgraceful act is by Asim Munir and the Noon League; these people are extremely afraid of Khan and his family.”
Imran Khan has been accused of illegally buying and selling gifts kept in the Toshakhana – a government department that stores presents given to prime ministers, presidents, ministers, MPs, and other officials.
In August 2023, he was sentenced to three years in prison for selling gifts worth over 140 million Pakistani rupees (about $500,000).
The Toshakhana case against Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, was adjourned on Friday, with the next hearing set for September 8.
