External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called on Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin on Thursday. Their meeting came after EAM’s talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow. Jaishankar, who is on a three-day visit to Russia, co-chaired the 26th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC) and addressed the India-Russia Business Forum meeting today.
Jaishankar shared about his meeting with President Putin in an X post. He conveyed greetings of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Putin.

Earlier in the day, Jaishankar met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, reviewed bilateral ties and discussed preparations for the annual summit later this year. In a joint press conference with Foreign Minister Lavrov, Jaishankar stated that India and Russia have maintained one of the steadiest major relationships in the world since the Second World War. He also emphasised the importance of sustaining energy cooperation through trade and investments, while pointing out that India is not the biggest buyer of Russian oil.
The External Affairs Minister also took to his X handle to share about his meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister. He mentioned that the two leaders held a detailed discussion on the bilateral ties, including trade, investment, energy, fertilisers, health, skilling and mobility, defense, and people to people exchanges.
Sharing the pictures from the meeting, he wrote on X, “Pleased to meet FM Sergey Lavrov today in Moscow. Had a detailed discussion on our bilateral ties, including trade, investment, energy, fertilizers, health, skilling & mobility, defense, and people to people exchanges. We exchanged views on Ukraine, Europe, Iran, West Asia, Afghanistan and the Indian sub-continent. Also spoke about our cooperation in UN, G20, SCO and BRICS. Our meeting helped prepare the outcomes and decisions for the Annual Summit later this year.”

Jaishankar On India-Russia Ties
The diplomatic dialogue between India and Russia comes at a time when the United States has been continuously calling out the increasing imports of Russian crude oil by New Delhi. However, despite the harsh tariffs imposed by the US President Donald Trump, India and Russia have maintained to continue the bilateral trade relations.
“We reaffirmed our shared ambition to expand bilateral trade in a balanced and sustainable manner, including by increasing India’s exports to Russia. This requires swiftly addressing non-tariff barriers and regulatory impediments, enhancing India’s exports to Russia in sectors like agriculture, pharma, and textiles will certainly help correct the imbalance,” said Jaishankar in a joint press conference with the Russian FM.
Jaishankar also stated that the global context for their meeting is provided by the evolving geopolitical situation, shifting economic trade landscape, and shared goal to maximise complementarity.
