In Beijing, a sudden storm turned routine cleaning into a terrible ordeal. High above the city, crew members clung precariously to their cables as the CCTV headquarters swayed in the gusts.

Videos of the incident were released online. The clip shows fierce winds sending workers wild on a rope hundreds of meters above the ground. Workers were seen trying to stay still against the fury of the wind sweeping through Beijing.

The Shanghai Journal wrote about X: “High maintenance workers were seen swinging in the strong wind in front of the CCTV headquarters in Beijing’s central business district on Thursday. Hoping for their safety.”

The China Central Television Tower rises in Beijing’s central business district, the Chaoyang District.

At the same time, the Finnish Meteorological Institute issued several warnings due to thunderstorms and strong winds in the capital.

The explosions were accompanied by light rain and the city remained on red alert due to scorching temperatures. Beijing was not alone – many parts of the Northern Hemisphere sweltered under the heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius in neighboring New Delhi.

In 2023, China was struggling with extreme weather events. The capital, Beijing, a metropolis of 20 million people, suffered record heat, which burned the city. Just weeks ago, massive flooding in southern China forced tens of thousands to evacuate and left more than a million homes without power.

The south is blamed for the destructive floods that caused landslides in Guangdong province.
