Vietnam: Claiming that the Washington’s aim is not to ‘contain’ Beijing, United States President Joe Biden on Sunday said that it wants China to grow economically along with following the established international rules.
During a press conference in Hanoi, US President Joe Biden highlighted China’s efforts to alter established rules, particularly in the realm of trade. He specifically pointed out that even members of the Chinese government have refrained from using Western cellphones. This observation shed light on the core focus of his trip to the region.
Biden made it clear that the objective of the Quad, a security dialogue involving India, the US, Australia, and Japan, is not to isolate China but to maintain stability in the Indo-Pacific region. He emphasized that the Quad is designed to ensure adherence to the rules governing various domains, from aerospace to maritime activities.
The President acknowledged that China, like other nations, faces economic challenges. He expressed his desire for China’s economic success but emphasized the importance of achieving it within the framework of international rules. Biden’s message centered on promoting a global landscape where nations cooperate within established norms rather than attempting to rewrite the rules unilaterally.
