United States President Donald Trump is set to deliver a key address at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday. His speech will focus on the “renewal of American strength around the world” under his leadership. Trump is expected to outline the “historic accomplishments” within the first eight months of his second term, including the resolution of seven global wars and conflicts.
What will Trump say?
During a presser, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “Tomorrow morning, President Trump will deliver a major speech touting the renewal of American strengths around the world, and his historic accomplishments in just 8 months, including the ending of seven global wars and conflicts.”
She further stated that Trump’s speech will highlight how “globalist institutions have significantly decayed the world order”, with US President laying out his “straightforward and constructive vision” for global peace and cooperation. At the UNGA, Trump is scheduled to meet with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, as well as the leaders of Ukraine, Argentina, and the European Union. While, on the sidelines of the UNGA, he will hold a group meeting with Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan.
“The President will also touch upon how globalist institutions have significantly decayed the world order, and he will articulate his straightforward and constructive vision for the world. The President will also host bilateral meetings with the UN Secretary-General and the leaders of Ukraine, Argentina, and the European Union. The President will also later in the day hold a multilateral meeting with Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, the UAE and Jordan,” added Leavitt.
The 80th General Assembly will mark Trump’s return to the session, where he is expected to highlight his administration’s emphasis on unilateral American power, even as the US has pulled back from many of its traditional leadership roles within the global body. This will be his fifth address at the UN General Assembly. He had previously addressed the session several times during his first term from 2017 to 2021.
