US President Donald Trump on Monday took attendees by surprise at the Gaza peace summit in Egypt by inviting Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to speak before the gathering. The Republican leader paused his speech momentarily and asked Sharif, “Do you want to say something’. He further pressed him to “say what you said to me the other day”.
Islamabad tapped Trump for the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize next year. “Again, I would like to nominate this great president for the Nobel Peace Prize, because I genuinely feel he is the most genuine and most wonderful candidate for the peace prize because he has brought not only peace in South Asia but saved millions of people, their lives and today, achieving peace in Gaza [and] saving, millions of lives in the Middle East,” Shehbaz Sharif said.

While delivering his remarks, Sharif lauded the US President, describing him as a ‘man of peace’ at Sharm-el-Sheikh. He said, “I would say this is one of the greatest days in contemporary history, because peace has been achieved after untiring efforts. Efforts led by President Trump, who is genuinely a man of peace who had relentlessly and untiringly worked throughout these months, day in and day out, to make this world a place to live in peace and prosperity.”
Retaking the podium, Trump said, “Wow! I didn’t expect that. Let’s go home, there’s nothing more I have to say. Goodbye everybody. That was really beautiful and beautifully delivered, thank you very much.”
Meanwhile, President Trump expressed optimism that India and Pakistan “are going to live very nicely together,” while addressing global leaders at the International Peace Summit in Egypt. Highlighting his rapport with India’s leadership, he said, “India is a great country with a very good friend of mine at the top, and he has done a fantastic job. I think that Pakistan and India are going to live very nicely together.”
