Delta Plane Crash: At least 18 passengers were injured after a Delta Airlines aircraft crashed while attempting to land at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday. The plane ended up upside down on the snowy ground and caught into flames. Briefing the media, Toronto Pearson Fire Chief Todd Aitken said that they began fire suppression when they arrived at the scene.
What Caused Delta Airlines Flight To Crash Land?
While no official statement has been released regarding the cause of the incident. Earlier in the day, Toronto Pearson International Airport had stated that it was expecting a “busy day” with over 130,000 travellers on board around 1,000 flights. It added that the recent snowstorm had let to 22 cm of snow at the airport over the weekend, making things challenging. The airport wrote on X, “The snow has stopped coming down, but frigid temperatures and high winds are moving in. Today, we’re expecting a busy day in our terminals with over 130,000 travellers on board around 1,000 flights. Airlines are catching up after this weekend’s snowstorm that dumped over 22 cm of snow at the airport.”

However, Toronto Pearson Fire Chief Todd Aitken stated that it is early in the investigation, but the runway conditions were dry, and there were no crosswinds. He added it wouldn’t be appropriate to comment on what caused the crash as the investigation is ongoing.
Toronto Airport CEO On Crash
Following the incident, the president and CEO of Toronto’s airport Deborah Flint addressed the media. She reiterated that there had been no fatalities in the crash, and appreciated the first responders reaching the site “within minutes”.
“We are very focused on the care and concern for the passengers and the crew. Some of whom have already been reunified with their friends and their families,” stated flint.
She highlighted that the investigation is underway and some runways on the airport will remain closed. She further added that passengers should expect further flight delays and cancellations in the coming days.
