Tel Aviv: Israel’s air-defense systems are widely known as some of the most advanced and battle-tested in the world, and their strength has been clearly seen in recent conflicts.
Now, the country is preparing for a major upgrade to its defense network. On December 30, Israel will introduce its new laser-based air-defense system, known as the “Iron Beam,” which is expected to strengthen the nation’s security shield.
“The development work has been completed, and the tests have confirmed the system’s capabilities. Therefore, we are ready to hand it over to the IDF on December 30, 2025.” Brigadier General (Retd.) Daniel Gold, head of the Defense Research and Development Directorate at the Ministry of Defense, said.
What is ‘Iron Beam’?

The Iron Beam is a new-generation weapon designed specifically to protect Israel from a wide range of aerial threats. The system uses laser beams to disable or destroy threats, including rockets, mortars, and drones, within seconds.
The Israeli Defense Ministry official also explained the country’s long-term defense plans.
“We are working on next-generation technologies that will consider future conflicts in space, attack capabilities, and defense capabilities. Details will be shared at the right time, and we are confident of successful implementation,” he said.
Israel Stopped Recent Threats
The official further referred to recent conflicts and said that Israeli defense systems successfully intercepted many external threats during the fighting. He added that Israel remains prepared for the future and continues to work to counter every possible danger.
