The land-attack cruise missiles have a striking range of approximately 1,500 kilometers using existing 533 mm torpedo tubes. The current Kilo-class submarines are set to retire after 2030, according to reports. The Kalibr-PL missiles are capable of destroying targets such as enemy airbases, ports, weapons depots, etc, within minutes, making China, Pakistan worried.
Kalibr-PL's addition to increase capability
Indian Navy's Kilo-class and Scorpene-class submarines are already equipped with Club-S's short-range version. Kalibr-PL's addition will significantly increase its capability. Under Project 751 submarine tender, the naval force is already evaluating torpedo-tube-launched missile capabilities. The first three Scorpene submarines, which are scheduled for mid-life refit from 2027, the decision on Kalibr is narrowing fast.
