Chinese President: Once again on Friday Xi Jinping was unanimously appointed as Chinese President for the third time. He is the country’s longest-serving leader since founding father Mao Zedong, Nikkei Asia reported.
Xi Jinping has been elected President of China for the third time. Nearly 3,000 members of the National People’s Congress (NPC) voted unanimously to elect Xi Jinping as president of China. A Reuters report said that there was no other candidate in the election. Xi has also been elected for a third term as chairman of China’s Central Military Commission.

China’s parliament also elected Zhao Lejie as the new parliament speaker and Han Zheng as the new vice speaker. The two were on Xi’s previous team of party leaders in the Politburo Standing Committee. It is noted that in October last year, Xi Jinping was re-elected as the General Secretary of the Communist Party for a record third term of five years.

Significantly, Xi Jinping himself removed the two-term limit on the presidency in 2018. Xi, 69, has become China’s longest-serving head of state with his third term as president. He is the second leader after Mao Zedong to be elected for a third consecutive term.
