Scientists in China have made a revolutionary discovery, the world’s first ‘bone glue’, which can join broken bones in just 2-3 minutes. This biological glue is inspired by seashells, which stick firmly to rocks in the sea. It is completely biodegradable and dissolves in the body in six months, eliminating the need for metal implants.
Dr. Lin Jianfeng and his team in Wenzhou city of China have developed this biomaterial ‘Bone 02’. They got this idea when they saw that seashells do not lose their grip even in strong waves and currents. Inspired by this, they created a substance that can join bones firmly even during blood-filled operations.
Chinese researchers on Tuesday unveiled their self-developed world's first “bone glue” material capable of securely bonding fractured bone fragments within 2-3 minutes in a blood-rich environment.

This glue can hold up to about 200 kg and when applied during surgery, bones join in a few minutes. While traditional treatments require inserting metal implants and then performing another surgery to remove them, this bone glue dissolves automatically in the body and does not require another surgery.
To date, it has been successfully tested on over 150 patients and has been proven to be both safe and effective. This technology can bring a revolution in the treatment of bone breaks, fractures, and orthopedic surgery. This will not only reduce the operation time, but the treatment will also be cheaper and less painful.
China has also applied for national and international patents (PCT) for this technology. This glue can make bone-related treatment simpler and safer than ever in the future.
