China has recently revised the regulations governing the administration of foreigners’ entry and exit, unveiling a new ‘K Visa’ category. The introduction of the new visa category, effective October 1, 2025, is aimed at attracting young and highly skilled professionals from around the world, particularly in STEM Fields. The scheme, described as China’s version of the restrictive and costly US H1 B visa, enables holders to manage their activities with greater flexibility.
On Friday, September 19, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing a USD 100,000 annual application fee for H-1B visas. The atest crackdown impacts thousands of skilled Indian foreign workers, who comprise the largest network of beneficiaries in the US. China’s new rule opens opportunities for South Asian talents amid widespread reassessment of opportunities in America.

The Chinese Ministry of Justice said that foreign citizens will be able to apply for the K visa. The access will be granted to ‘young scientific and technological talents’ who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics fields from reputed universities in China or abroad.
Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria set by the Chinese authorities. Supporting documents, such as proof of academic qualification and others, must be provided to work in China.
