New Delhi: India and China have come face to face again after the latter issued stapled visa to athletes from Arunachal Pradesh going to participate in the World Universiade Game.
Following the China’s move, India withdrew its Wushu team. Meanwhile, the India’s decision was taken after China issued stapled visas for the a team for Arunchal Pradesh on Wednesday that angered India. Following which, the Indian contingent was stopped to go to Chengdu in China.
After which, the queries arose what is Staple Visa that China approved but India got furious?
What is Staple Visa?
Visas are one of the important documents that a person needs for travelling abroad. They are of many types like Tourist Visa, Business Visa, Transit Visa, Journalist Visa, Entry Visa, On Arrival Visa, Partner Visa.
However, the Staple Visa is different from this. Generally, a country put a stamp on your visa but the kind of visa in question does not include the same. Instead of the stamp, the authorities staples a separate piece of paper or slip with your passport.
Usually, the stamp explains the purpose of visit to a particlar country. In stapled visa, the purpose of your visit to that country is written on this paper. The immigration officer puts a stamp on that paper. This is called a stapled visa.
Countries that issues staple visas
Many countries issue staple visa including Cuba, Iran, Syria and North Korea. These countries used to issue stapled visas to the people of China and Vietnam as well but these countries were exempted after a mutual agreement.
Meanwhile, China issues stapled visas to Indians, especially to the people who belongs to Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. It does not apply the same policy to other states of India.
At this point, it is necessary for one to know that the China considers Arunachal Pradesh as a part of Tibet that it has the authority over. Due to which, it considers the poeple of Arunachal Pradesh as their own.
Since it believes that the people from Arunachal, it justifies that its citizens do not need a visa to travel to their ‘home country’. China has claimed Arunachal Pradesh as its internal part by calling it Southern Tibet.
The reason behind issuing the stapled visa, from the perspective of China’ is that the people of Arunachal Pradesh are currently under the occupation of India, so all they need to travel China is stapled visa.
