Beijing: A powerful 5.5-magnitude earthquake shook Pingyuan County in Dezhou City, Shandong Province, China, at 2:33 am local time on Sunday. The quake resulted in injuries to at least 10 people and caused the collapse of several buildings.

The China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) reported the incident, and the US Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed the shallow earthquake’s impact. Tremors in Shandong Province

At 2:33 am on Sunday, Pingyuan County in Dezhou City experienced a jolting 5.5-magnitude earthquake. The quake’s epicenter was situated 26 kilometers south of Dezhou City, Shandong Province, and its depth was measured at 10 kilometers. The tremors caused injuries to at least 10 individuals and resulted in the collapse of numerous buildings, as reported by CGTN based on the information provided by the CENC and the USGS.

Meanwhile, a Twitter user @tongbingxue posted a video of the moments when the quake was in action. The post also informed regarding the number of buildings collapsed and the initial number of injuries sustained by the people.

Afghanistan’s Quake incident

On the previous day, Afghanistan faced its own seismic challenge when a magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck the region. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported the event, indicating the earthquake hit at 21:31:48 IST at a depth of 181 kilometers. The earthquake’s epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush Region, Afghanistan, with coordinates Latitude: 36.38 and Longitude: 70.77.

The aftermath of the quakes

While the earthquake in Afghanistan did not result in casualties or material damage, the situation was more severe in China’s Shandong Province. At least 10 people suffered injuries, and numerous buildings collapsed due to the force of the 5.5-magnitude earthquake.
