A recent Canadian report has expressed deep concern over the terror funding being received by Khalistani extremist organisations operating within the country. In this report, for the first time, Canada has officially acknowledged that organisations such as Babbar Khalsa International, International Sikh Youth Federation and Sikhs for Justice are running their operations from Canada and are receiving financial support.
This information is part of a comprehensive analysis conducted by the Department of Finance of Canada on the threats of money laundering and terror financing. The report mentions that Khalistani organisations “are suspected of raising funds in a number of countries, including Canada.”
In addition, the report also underlines that financial links have been found between Canada and some other terrorist groups. It mentions organisations such as Hamas and Hezbollah, which have been placed in the category of Politically Motivated Violent Extremism (PMVE).
As quoted by NDTV, the report states, “Several terrorist entities listed under the Criminal Code in Canada that fall under the PMVE category, such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Khalistani violent extremist groups Babbar Khalsa International and the International Sikh Youth Federation, have been observed by law enforcement and intelligence agencies to receive financial support originating from Canada,” the report said.
This official statement marks a significant change in Canada’s stance on extremism funding and reflects that preventing financial support to terrorist groups remains a major challenge.
