The US defence department, the Pentagon, has claimed in a report that China has kept an eye on Arunachal Pradesh along with Taiwan. The report cited that the dragon has included the Indian state in its core interests. After the Pentagon report, Arunachal Pradesh has brought strategic tension between India and Pakistan onto the global stage.
China sees Arunachal as part of long-term geopolitical plan
Experts are of the view that China does not see it as a border dispute; rather, it is part of its long-standing geopolitical plan. According to a Pentagon report, keeping regional claims and sovereignty as a priority, China is committed to achieving its “national revival” target at any cost by 2049.
Under this strategy, the South China Sea, Taiwan, and disputes on Indian borders are being seen as a common front. The report said easing tensions on the LAC is part of China’s long-term strategy.
China preparing for Arunachal war: Expert
Navbharat Times spoke to defence expert (Retd) Lt. Col. JS Sodhi, who said, “The Pentagon’s report has once again proved that the China’s stance against India has not changed; instead, it is preparing for war over Arunachal Pradesh.” He expressed surprise over why this is not being discussed in India.
The defence expert said that after US President Donald Trump took over the Oval Office, the US, China, and Russia have divided the world into three parts, and these three powers have undeclared pact that they will not interfere in each other’s interests. The expert coined the term ‘G3’ for this arrangement.
‘China is preparing to launch an attack against India’
Sodhi said, “If we try to deeply understand the developments, China is swiftly preparing to launch an attack against India.” He said the dragon has built a dam at a distance of 30 kilometres from the Indian border.
The Pentagon’s assessment report also cited that China’s move to control the situation at the LAC is a strategic step to stop India from getting closer to the United States.
The defence expert said that Arunachal Pradesh is not only a border dispute for China but also a part of its Indo-Pacific strategy. He further said that China may launch an attack over Arunachal Pradesh after 2030. He added that China will attack Taiwan in 2027.
‘Trump’s tariff policy has created tension with the old allies’
Sodhi also referred to an article written by former Indian Army chief MM Naravane, in which he wrote that US President Donald Trump’s tariff policy has created tension with the old allies of the United States, and India has found itself in a difficult situation amid this chaos.
Sodhi said India has five years’ time, and the nation should not leave any stone unturned to strengthen its defence preparedness by importing advanced weapons and fighter jets. He said this is the only way India can stop China if it attacks India after 2030.
