California: Tropical Storm Hilary brought about intense flash floods both to the east and west of Los Angeles on Sunday. The storm’s significant entry into California occurred after it had surged through Mexico’s Baja California peninsula with lethal intensity.

The National Weather Service of the US warned and said that the hurricane can cause “significant impacts” to the region this weekend into early next week.

Casualties

One man lost his life in the Baja California Sur State at the time when the family of five was carried away into the sea while going across a stream, a Mexican official said while sharing images of flooded pathways, which were swept away by the sea.

The hurricane resulted in delayed flights and disrupted sports games. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) stated that the hurricane was getting weak as it headed to the west-central coast of the peninsula on Saturday evening. It was predicted that the natural calamity would lose more strength and turn into a tropical storm as it heads towards Southern California on Saturday.

Some 48 km south, in the town of Mulege, where the death of one person was reported when crossing a stream, Municipal President Edith Aguilar Villavicenio through her Facebook account notified that Mexico’s Navy and local firefighters were rescuing people.

Hilary moved north northwest around 27 Km per hour, packing maximum sustained winds of 100 mph (161 kph), the National Hurricane Center (NHC) stated.

The authorities of the US have warned the citizens and businesses to be cautious of the calamity.

About 200 flights scheduled for Sunday at the San Diego International Airport have been cancelled and another 184 on Monday, as per the FlightAware website.
