Canada: The forest fires in Canada’s western province of British Columbia have further escalated on Saturday, causing the number of individuals under evacuation orders has doubled, reaching a total of 35,000, Reuters reported.

Authorities are cautioning about the challenges that lie ahead in managing the situation.
As uncontrolled wildfires continue to ravage interior British Columbia, the province declared a state of emergency on Friday. This move grants temporary authoritative powers aimed at tackling the fire-related risks that have led to property destruction and disruptions in transit routes.
The fires have partially shut down crucial sections of a vital transit route connecting the Pacific coast to the rest of western Canada.
Premier Daniel Eby expressed the gravity of the situation, informing Reuters on Saturday that approximately 35,000 individuals are currently under evacuation orders. An additional 30,000 people are on evacuation alert, ready to leave if necessary.

Recognizing the urgent need for shelter for both evacuees and firefighters, Eby initiated a ban on non-essential travel. This step aims to free up temporary accommodations to accommodate those affected by the fires.
The recent weather conditions in British Columbia have exacerbated the crisis. Strong winds and dry lightning, resulting from the interaction between a cold mass of air and the accumulated hot air from sultry summer conditions, have intensified existing forest fires and ignited new ones.
Jerrad Schroeder, deputy fire centre manager at the Kamloops Fire Centre, warned that the province is still facing critically dry conditions. He emphasized the expectation of challenging days ahead.

In response to the escalating situation, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau convened a meeting of key ministers and senior officials on Saturday to address the wildfire crisis. The Incident Response Group, which gathered for the second time this week, agreed to allocate “additional resources” to both British Columbia and the Northwest Territories in order to combat the fires and provide assistance to affected communities.
