A temporary truce between Israel and Hamas will commence on Friday morning. Moreover, as reported by CNN, Qatar announced that civilian hostages and Palestinian prisoners will be released later this afternoon.
The brief truce between the sides will take effect at 7 AM local time. Moreover, 13 hostages held by Hamas will be set free at 4 PM, said Majed Al-Ansari, a spokesperson for Qatar’s foreign ministry. He further stated that the list of captives to be released has been sent to Mossad, an Israeli intelligence service. The decision has been welcomed as a consequence of deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
What Is Expected From This Truce?
Besides ceasing fire and releasing hostages, another thing that is expected of this truce is to pause air congestion over northern Gaza during certain hours of the day over southern Gaza completely.
How Will The Release Of Hostages And Prisoners Be Executed?
During the course of four days, Hamas will set free 50 women and children from about 240 people who were taken captive by the group.
In return, Israel will release 150 Palestinian woman and children, whom Palestinians have long regarded as victims of Israeli occupations that sweeps them into prisons with little pretense of due process.
Prior to the execution of the deal, Israel handed over a list of 300 Palestinian prisoners that they intend on releasing. The people included in the list haven’t been accused of murder and several of them were held under arbitrary detention without trial.
As said on the Israeli Army Radio, the first batch of 39 Palestinian prisoners will be released at about 8 PM on Friday. However, this will only happen on the condition that the hostages held in Gaza are on Israeli soil.
According to Israel, for the release of every 10 additional hostages, the pause will be extended by one day. Qatar also mentioned that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will work in Gaza in order to aid in the release process.
Update On The Armed Activity
As per the deal, there will be no attack whatsoever. No military movements and no expansion will take place. Hamas said that Israel has given a nod to suspend air traffic over northern Gaza from 10 AM until 4 PM each day, and over southern Gaza for the entirety of the truce.
As per the group, Israel also agreed that it would neither attack nor arrest anyone in Gaza. Moreover, the people are allowed to move freely along Alah al-Din Road, the main street along which many Palestinians have fled northern Gaza and where Israel launched its ground invasion.
Hamas also stated that when the trice enters into effect, its armed wing and all other Palestinian factions will pause all military activity.
The group mentioned that 200 aid and four fuel trucks will be permitted into Gaza every day, as Palestinian civilians reel from the humanitarian crisis caused to them by the Israeli bombardment and harsh restrictions such as access to food, electricity, and water.
