New Delhi: The Russian administration has announced that the forces are ‘regrouping’  as the Ukrainian Army gains ground in east.

Moscow announced Saturday that it was “regrouping” its forces in the eastern Kharkiv region of Ukraine. This comes after Kyiv announced its troops had made sweeping gains in the territory held for months by Russia’s army.

The Kremlin now calls the Kharkiv withdrawal as a “Planned Withdrawal”.

“In order to achieve the goals of the special military operation, a decision was made to regroup troops in the areas of Balakleya and Izyum in order to build up efforts in the Donetsk direction,” the Russian military said in a statement on Saturday.

Asserted status of on-ground troops

The Russian troops that were stationed in the Balakleya and Izyum regions were regrouping towards the direction of Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).

As per the Russian forces they underwent a three-day operation to curtail and execute the transfer of the Izyum-Balakley segment of troops. They were to regroup in the Donetsk People’s Republic region. So they carried out certain “actions” which results in “distraction”.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, nearly 2,000 foreign and Ukrainian combatants were killed by Russian forces over the course of three days.
