New Delhi: On Wednesday, North Korea launched an unidentified ballistic missile into the East Sea. Heightening tensions in the midst of an ongoing naval drill involving an American aircraft carrier between South Korea and the United States.
The launch was declared by the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), and it happened just three days after the North launched an SRBM into the East Sea. In anticipation of such analysis, it made no additional disclosures.
Kamala Harris was scheduled to visit Seoul
The most recent saber-rattling occurred as the allies’ Navies staged an exercise in the East Sea with the nuclear-powered USS Ronald Reagan carrier and as US Vice President Kamala Harris was scheduled to visit Seoul on Thursday.
For the first allied exercise close to the peninsula in five years, the American carrier, the centerpiece of American naval might, landed here on Friday. The four-day training session is scheduled to last until Thursday.
Amid worries that the recalcitrant government will commit provocative acts like a nuclear test or a launch of a ballistic missile from a submarine, the allies have intensified security coordination.
