After Saudi Arabia’s stance on Israel that it will not recognise the nation until the reconstruction of the Palestinian state, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took a dig at Saudi Arabia, saying that why not establish Palestinian estate into their own country.
While talking to Channel-14, Netanyahu said that Saudi Arabia could create a Palestinian state on its vast land if they are committed to the same. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s statement could strain their ties which are already on a bitter note. However, Saudi Arabia’s response was quiet after Israel attacked Gaza in 2023.
When Netanyahu was asked about Palestinian statehood, the Israeli prime minister said his government would not make any such agreement that could pose a potential threat to the Israeli citizens. He said there was a Gaza to which Hamas was spearheading. He said, “What did we get? Genocide, after holocaust.”
The Israeli prime minister’s interview was held after he met with US President Donald Trump. Netanyahu expects that peace will soon be made between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
The foreign ministry of Saudi Arabia said that it would not engage in any talks with Israel until Palestinian statehood is discussed.
Notably, Donald Trump formulated the Abraham Accords during his last tenure between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and the latter recognised Israel as a nation. It is expected that the US President may initiate Abraham Accords 2.0 between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
