Utah Governor Spencer Cox on Friday (September 12, 2025) announced that unfired bullet casings were found near the rifle with inscriptions on it, believed to be written by Tyler Robinson, conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer. While addressing a press conference, Cox informed that some of the casings were engraved with anti-fascist messages.
Gov. Cox said, one of the casings read, “Hey fascist! Catch! ↑ → ↓ ↓ ↓.” What the arrows represent remains unclear. Another casing had Italian anti-fascist song lyrics written on it, “O bella ciao, bella ciao.” While the words inscribed on a third casing were, “If you read this, you are gay LMAO,” the fourth said, “Notices bulges. OwO. What’s this?”.
The above-mentioned casings were allegedly linked to 22-year-old Tyler, a resident of Utah. Cox confirmed that the 22-year-old was the suspect in the activist’s shooting case. The New York Post said, citing law enforcement sources, that Tyler reportedly threatened to kill himself instead of surrendering upon being confronted by his father about the murder.
What Is Bella Ciao?
Bella Ciao is a popular World War II-era Italian anti-fascist song. It is a 19th-century protest song initially sung by Italian workers in the rice fields, and dedicated to the partisans of the Nazi resistance and fascist regime. The exact origins are, however, unknown; the song rose to fame in recent years. It has been used widely in TV shows and video games.
‘Bella Ciao’ is sung annually on April 25 during Italy’s Liberation Day to celebrate the end of the Nazi occupation. It commemorates liberation from Benito Mussolini’s fascist dictatorship. Different versions of the song have been sung by various artists over the years, including Tom Waits, Yves Montand, and Becky G. The tune was chanted in 2023 to taunt Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and also at the European Parliament in 2024.
Before devolving into political tragedy, the song begins with catchy and romantic lyrics that say, “One morning I woke up.” The song, which was also incorporated into the hit Netflix series Money Heist, was sung by American singer Becky G.
