Bangladesh In Crisis: Interim Head Muhammad Yunus Warns Of ‘War-Like’ Situation After Awami League Ban

Bangladesh interim government head Muhammad Yunus said a war-like situation has emerged in the country after banning former PM Sheikh Hasina’s party, Awami League. Yunus said the law and order has collapsed. The chief advisor’s press secretary, Shafiqul Alam has shared the information.

‘A war-like situation’

After holding a meeting with all political parties, Alam said, “ We are facing a war-like situation inside and outside the country, and it is impeding our growth.”

Yunus had expressed to step down from his post

Alam said the interim government head met over 20 political parties on May 25 and shared above said thoughts during the meeting.  He reportedly said that “Everything has collapsed and we are heading towards servitude.” The meeting occurred after reports emerged that Yunus wanted to step down as the interim government head. 

Political parties demanded for poll dates

Yunus further said, “Since the ban has been imposed on Awami League, attempts have been made to destabilise the country and we all need to stay away from such activities.” Yunus stressed that none of his actions would harm the image of the nation. The interim government head’s appeal came amid growing demands from political parties for poll dates.

Earlier, a political party leader said Yunus had held India responsible for the current crisis. He quoted Unus saying that India does not want to let its hegemony go and is making an effort to end the changes they made in the past few months. 

BNP asked Muhammad Yunus to remove students from Cabinet

On May 24, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), one of the largest political party in Bangladesh, has urged Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to remove two students from his Cabinet.BNP also demanded to remove National Security Adviser from the interim government, a senior BNP leader said on Saturday evening.
